The Governing body of a school has legal duties, powers and responsibilities to ensure that the school provides the best education for all pupils. They act together to do this.
Governors are volunteers and can become a member of the Governing body through four different routes:
- Staff Governor(s) – elected by other members of staff
- Parent Governors – they have a child at the school at thee time of their election by other parents at the school
- Local Authority Governors(LA) – appointed by the local authority
- Co-opted Governors – people who, in the opinion of the governing body, have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the School.
All Governors serve a four year term of office from when they start.
