Visit from our MP Thangam Debbonaire

Today we welcomed Thangam Debbonaire, our local MP to Cabot.   After a brief tour of the school led by our pupil ambassadors, Thangam met with our Student Council and answered a whole range of questions covering issues from helping homeless people to the impact of Brexit.   After she joined us for our school assembly and told us about her journey from school to being an MP.  We are very grateful to Thangam for the visit and taking time to talk and listen to children about issues that want to address.

Young Writer Award

We had some very special visitors to Cabot today.  Three members of The Rotary Club of Bristol, including our school governor Mr Robin Nash,  came to award two of our children with prizes for the entries to the Bristol Young Writer competition .  Solomon came second and Zubeyr came first out of all the entrants from our school and others across Bristol.  This is a fantastic achievement.  Not only were the boys awarded certificates, they also received book tokens.  I know these will be very well spent.

2017 SATs Results

Happy New Year!  I’m very pleased to begin 2018 with some great news about our SATs results from last Summer.   66% of our pupils achieved the new higher expected standards in Reading, Writing and Maths.  This is higher than the National and Bristol average of 61%.  Even more impressive are our progress scores.  The Department for Education measures the progress children make from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.  The National average is represented by a score of zero.   Values higher than zero indicate better than average progress and scores below zero indicate that progress was below average.   All of our progress scores were positive this.  We are particularly pleased with our Writing progress measure which indicates that the progress of our pupils was in the top 10% of all schools Nationally.    We know there is so much more to a well rounded education than success in tests, but these outcomes give us all reason to feel very proud of the achievement of our pupils.
