Year 2 Spelling Bee

Congratulations Year 2 pupils for your magnificent performance in the Spelling Bee competition with our local partner schools.  We put in a very strong performance.  All four of our Year 2 team made it through the early rounds.  The final came down to a head to head challenge between Rayhan and a child from St Barnabas.  It was a tough match that St Barnabas won in the final round.  It was great fun for all who entered and the children and families who went to watch.

Spring Fair

Thank you to everyone who came to the Spring Fair yesterday afternoon.  There were plenty of fun fair games to play and lots of tasty food enjoy.  Thank you to everyone who helped run a stall or donated food to sell.  You were very generous with your contributions.  We need to give a special mention to Claire Humphreys for organising this wonderful event.  There is still a bit of checking to do but it looks as though we managed to raise around £300.  This is great! We hope to use this money to go towards setting up our Summer Fair in July.   This money will ensure we can put on entertainments such as the Bouncy Castle and Circus Skills that we have all enjoyed in previous years.

Forest of Dean Residential

I am very pleased to confirm that the Forest of Dean Residential trip is definitely going ahead.  In the past we have had day visits to the Deanfield Study Centre but this year, for the first time, our Year 5 and 6 pupils will be staying there for two nights.  More information about what the children need to bring will follow soon.  Below are some photographs from last year’s visit.

Bristol Together Championship

Today we had our first Bristol Together Championship session with children from Wansdyke Primary School.  Over the next few weeks pupils from Cabot and Wansdyke will train together and enter a football competition against other paired Bristol Primary Schools.  As well as developing their football and team skills, this is a great way for pupils from different parts of the city to develop friendships with each other.  it’s  a great citywide competition that we are very glad to be a part of.  We are also the current champions having won the competition with Perry Court last year.

Relationship and Sex Education (RSE)

In Term 6 we will be teaching Sex and Relationship Education across the school.  Although the title of this unit of work includes the word ‘sex’, please be aware that all lessons taught a re carefully chosen to be age appropriate for each class.  Most of the work will the children do across the school will focus on the relationship element of the unit.  Relationship lessons will include learning about the different relationships they have with their friends, families and other people they know.  We will discuss how to be caring, helpful and kind towards each other.

As in the past,  we will provide details of what we are teaching before the lessons begin.  You will also be invited to meetings to discuss these units and see some of the resources we will be using towards the end of term 5.

Our RSE Policy has been updated this year to reflect the 2017 policy statement issued by the government regarding SRE education and to support the work we are doing this year to promote inclusion and challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.
