Year 5 and 6 sailed on The Matthew today. Conditions were perfect for learning about the historic Bristol docks and the journeys made by John Cabot on The Matthew. Our school is named after John Cabot and The Matthew is our school logo which can be seen across the school on our uniforms and signage.
We had a special visit from John, a member of the Royal Lifeboat Institution. John presented a very interesting assembly and workshops for our children about the history of the organisation and the dangers of potential water. Children listened very attentively and learnt a lot from this session
Our theme for Book Week this year was “Share a story”. I am pleased to tell you it was a big success! It was great to have parents in sharing books and stories in different languages. We also had our bedtime stories and World Book Day dress up day.
Thank you Ms Davies for organising everything and thanks to all the staff, parents and pupils who joined in making it such a happy week of learning.
We had a special visitor in school this week. Ann James is the Director of Services for Children and Families across Bristol. Ann took time out of her very busy schedule to come and listen to two of our fantastic Year 5 pupils read to her. Both pupils took part in the Reading Recovery Programme when they were in Year 2. They are now thriving in their learning and love reading.
